Section 1 – The Scouting Program - see calendar of events This section describes our program for the coming scouting year (September 2001 – August 2002). There is a register of events for quick reference, a calendar showing all events and dates relevant to our Scouting program, and also a set of Fact Sheets, describing in more detail each planned events for the year. Please note that these plans are made in the summer before our program starts, and details may change before the event actually takes place. Updates will be issued as needed, please don’t just rely on the original program guide for details. Section 2 – People - not yet available on-line This section contains information about the people in the troop, with an alphabetic roster of each family involved with Devon 50, as well as lists of the leaders and members of each patrol, including the Staff Patrol. There are also rosters of Assistant Scoutmasters, Troop Committee members and Devon 50 Trustees. (There are brief descriptions of these functions in Section 4). Section 3- Equipment The equipment section lists the Patrol equipment assigned to each patrol and describes how each item should be maintained and kept. There is also a list of what personal equipment is required for a given type of event, including packs, clothing and footwear. Section 4 – Goals and expectations This brief section describes the goals the scouts have set for the Troop for the coming year, our Drug and Alcohol policy and what is expected of a Devon 50 scout. Section 5 – Parent’s Guide The Parents’ Guide is also relevant reading for the scouts. It contains information that helps you understand our Troop and what is expected of our scouts and parents. You will find items like a brief overview of the troop background and objectives, how we are organized and operate, what equipment the scouts need to have and where to get it (more in section 3), parent involvement and responsibilities, dues and fees and so on. This section doesn’t change much from year to year, but is mandatory reading for new parents, and a useful reference source for everyone. If you have any questions or suggestions about this handbook, your ideas are always welcome! Please call or E-mail Bard Haerland, our Scoutmaster, or any of the Assistant Scoutmasters listed in this book.
