6. Greenbar
Meetings
|
|
|
The
Patrol Leaders, the troop staff and the adult leaders meet at least
once a month in the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC). In Devon 50, we
meet at Camp Jarvis, in the Greenbar Room, at 7pm on the last
Wednesday of the month. We call it the Greenbar Meeting, because of
the green bars on the leadership patch.
|
It's
part of your job to help run the troop. |
|
The Greenbar meetings
are where that happens |
Both
the Patrol Leader and the Assistant Patrol Leader attend the
Greenbar meeting. That way, you are more sure you will get
everything, and you can help each other remember what went on.
And if one of you can't make it, nothing will be lost, since the
other steps in and does the job.
The
Greenbar meetings are very busy, and there is a lot of information
coming your way, so pay attention. Wouldn't it be
embarrassing if you were there, and didn't get the message about
something important? Always bring notepaper and a pen or pencil to
the Greenbar meeting. A notebook that is only for your scouting
things, is a great way to do it.

The Greenbar meeting is
where the troop is being run. The Patrol Leaders report on the past
month's activities and achievements, and on any problems, so
prepare a report before you go. Be prepared to stand up and give
your report and always turn in an agenda of each of your meetings
and bring your patrol point sheets with you. Be prepared to talk
about how the patrol is doing on accomplishing the goals that the
troop and the patrol established at the beginning of the year. It
doesn't have to be a big deal, but this is your chance to brag
about all you have done, and to discuss problems. Maybe others have
had the same problem, and have figured out a good way to deal with
it.
When
decisions are made, and information is given out, take notes and
collect any information papers, so you can bring them back to your
Patrols and discuss them in your next patrol meeting. In the Devon
50 Greenbar meetings, we also plan the next troop
meeting, we
discuss leadership and any thing
else that's on your mind.
All the
Devon 50 events for the year are published in the Program Guide,
with a summary of events, a calendar and a fact sheet for each
event. Each event is also discussed at the Greenbar meeting, with
additional information when needed.. You need to read the fact
sheets carefully, and make sure your patrol members understand the
information. The fact sheet is also a checklist for you, to help
you remember all the steps to take to get your patrol ready and
present for all the Devon 50 activities.
