Our
annual
Devon 50
first meeting food drive on September 24th was a huge
success!!
Delivered to the food pantry the next morning were two nearly full trucks of dry goods for REACT. Once those bags are unpacked and sorted, the pantry should be full floor to ceiling. Thanks so much for rallying at the last minute to meet this desperate need. The food pantry will be open this month, thanks to your efforts! Attached is a picture of Mabel Purcell, the food pantry coordinator. She was thrilled to receive the donation and asked me to pass along her heartfelt thanks for your efforts! A special thanks also to Mike Brenner for getting his whole neighborhood involved! ![]() Great job! -- Maureen McQuiggen |

First Class Requirement #11 Changes. Do it Now!This is one of the easiest but most important requirements to attain the rank of First Class: invite a friend. Every boy deserves a chance and maybe a second chance to become a Boy Scout. And you can achieve the requirement at any time: whether you are a Scout, Tenderfoot or Second Class: “Tell someone who is eligible to join Boy Scouts, or an inactive Boy Scout, about your Troop’s activities. Invite him to a Troop outing, activity, service project, or meeting. Tell him how to join, or encourage the inactive Boy Scout to become active.” You will make a friend or make a better friendship by getting your friends involved with you in Scouting. Wouldn’t this be a good gift for the holidays?

Youth Protection figures into new Rank RequirementsThe National Youth Protection Committee recommended additions to Boy Scout rank requirements that were approved and will become effective January 1, 2008. These changes will help us advance the importance of Youth Protection training beyond the initial Boy Scout joining requirements, and keep youth informed and actively engaged in understanding the key elements of personal safety and protection. Tenderfoot Rank - Revised requirement 9: Explain the importance of the buddy system as it relates to your personal safety on outings and in your neighborhood. Describe what a bully is and how you should respond to one. Second Class Rank - New requirement 8b: Explain the three R’s of personal safety and protection. First Class Rank - New requirement 12: Describe the three things you should avoid doing related to use of the Internet. Describe a cyberbully and how you should respond to one. The changes will be represented in the 2008 Boy Scout Requirements book and the revised ninth printing of the 11th edition of the Boy Scout Handbook.
