Wes Laney – #273
Wesley Laney was born in Atlanta Georgia on September 8, 1989. He moved to
Wayne, Pennsylvania in June 1994 and started at Valley Forge Elementary School
September of 1995. Wesley joined Cub Scout Pack 81 in the fall of 1996, became
Den Chief in 1998 and was awarded his Arrow of Light in the fall of 1999. The
pine wood derby and camping out at Jarvis were particular highlights of his Cub
Scout experience.
Wesley joined Devon 50 in the fall of 2000 with his neighborhood friends. He enjoyed the many scout activities; summer camp, ski trip, winter camping and the mystery trip. It was rewarding to see Wesley learn from the adult scouts and older boys and then become a leader himself. Wesley’s leadership positions included Assistant Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader for the Wolf Patrol. The summer of 2004 Wesley had two great high adventure experiences; Philmont and the Adirondacks wilderness trip. Many thanks go to Mr. Coonley, Mr. Gavin, Mr. Ligon, Mr. Manning and Mr. Scott for making these trips possible.
Wesley’s Eagle Project took place at the Methodist Home for Children located off City Line Avenue in Philadelphia. He designed, built and planted a raised bed community vegetable garden. Special thanks go to Ross Lutemen of the Methodist Home for Children who sponsored this Eagle project.
Wesley is currently a senior at Conestoga High school where he enjoys Physics, Art and Music. He is a member of the National Art Honor Society and has been on the Honor Roll every year. He is a long time Ice Hockey player receiving Co-Captain and Defense Man of the Year in 2006. Wesley also played Rugby for two seasons and Varsity Football for the first time last fall. Wesley enjoys playing jazz piano in his spare time. Next year he plans to attend college in his home state of Georgia.
Wesley would like to thank all of those who aided him in reaching Eagle Scout. Particularly the Devon 50 Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Trustees and parents who were always willing to help.
Of course Wesley would especially like to thank this mom and dad for prodding him along the path to Eagle.
