Gene Eng – #271
Gene Eng was born on April 19, 1990. He lives in Tredyffrin Township with his parents Wai-Kwong and Ping, and sister Sarah.
Gene began scouting as a Tiger Cub at Beaumont Elementary School and later joined Cub Scout Pack 113. Gene was particularly fond of selling popcorn to help raise money, attending the annual sleepover trip at the Franklin Institute, and competing in the Pinewood Derby.
Gene joined Devon 50 in September 2001 after earning his Arrow of Light Award. Some of Gene’s most memorable trips include the ski trip, the whitewater rafting trip, and summer camp at Horseshoe. Gene’s leadership positions included Den Chief for Pack 113 and Assistant Patrol Leader for Stag Patrol.
Gene’s Eagle Project was to cut a quarter-mile trail through Cedar Hollow Preserve. With the help of his family and fellow scouts, he removed low-lying brush and roots from the ground, set wooden steps into the inclines along the path, and cleared the surrounding area of trash and debris. He also removed an abandoned refrigerator, fallen trees, and several rubber tires from the nearby paths and creek beds.
Gene is a currently senior at Conestoga High School where he has been named a National Merit Semi-Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, and Latin Scholar. Outside school Gene volunteers at the Paoli Hospital and enjoys playing the piano.
Gene would like to thank the Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and other parents who have devoted countless hours of their time to help make Troop Devon 50 so great. He also wishes to give thanks to his fellow scouts for years of friendship, and a special thanks to his mother and father for their encouragement and support in reaching Eagle Scout.
