Lane Calligan – #266

Lane Calligan was born in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1989.  He lives in Strafford with his parents, his sister, Katherine, and his brother, Christopher.

Lane joined Devon 50 in September 2000 as a member of  Hawk patrol.  He has served as assistant patrol leader and patrol leader for the Hawk patrol and is currently the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.   He was called out to Order of the Arrow in 2005 and achieved Brotherhood in September of 2006.  He has been a top wreath salesman selling over $1000 every year and earning the title of top wreath patrol salesman from 2000-2004.  One of his favorite wreath memories was taking the troop up to his home in Vermont for the Mystery Trip.  He has enjoyed going to Camp Horseshoe every summer with the high point being playing the role of the Shaman in the campfire ceremony.

Lane has participated in almost every type of trip organized by the troop including; backpacking, caving, skiing, canoeing, biking and white water rafting.  Many of his favorite experiences involved summer trips.  He went hiking through Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons in the summer of 2003 and then returned to the west in 2004 to go hiking through Philmont.   He was lucky enough to go with his father on both trips and came back with many inside jokes and spectacular memories.  The summer of 2005 was spent at the National Jamboree where, among other things, he discovered a skill for trading patches.  He hopes to remain active in scouting and is planning to serve as an adult leader at the World Jamboree.

Lane’s Eagle project was building and installing birdhouses for the Chester County Open Land Conservancy.  He would like to thank Mitsy Toland, his sponsor, and the many scouts who helped.

Lane is a senior at Conestoga High School where he is active in their music and theatre program.  He is currently singing in the select musical group, Camerata and has the male lead in the fall play, Reckless.    Lane is also active at St David’s Church.  He sings in their choir and participates in youth group.  Last summer he had the opportunity to go to Guatemala with the church to work with Habitat for Humanity.  He is currently is the process of applying to colleges for the fall of 2007.
