Vishnu Anantha – #262
Vishnu Anantha was born in Fremont, California on June 20, 1988. When he was 13, he moved with his mother and sister to Wayne, Pennsylvania. He was introduced to boy scouts through his cousin, and soon joined Troop 45 in Devon, PA. After attending the Council Camporee at Valley Forge (where he met a few Devon 50 scouts), Vishnu knew that scouting was something he enjoyed and wanted to continue.
Soon after, Vishnu joined Devon 50, where he was placed in the Hawk Patrol. He immediately fit into the troop. After working as a den chief for Den 20 of Pack 81 starting in late 2002, he became an Assistant Patrol Leader in 2003, as well as becoming Patrol Leader for the new patrol, the Dingo Patrol. In 2004, Vishnu became Patrol Leader of the Hawk Patrol. As Patrol Leader, Vishnu won the JB Rettew III Trophy for Outstanding Patrol Leader, and the Hawk Patrol won The Crawford Cup for the patrol with the best record in District and Council competitions. Vishnu currently serves as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
For Vishnu’s Eagle Project, he designed and constructed a shadow fence for the Home of the Sparrow, a non-profit organization in West Chester that provides housing for homeless women and children. He is grateful to all the scouts and adults who helped build the fence.
Vishnu’s most memorable trip with Devon 50 is the canoe trip in which he and Mr. La Rosa managed to flip their canoe twice. On the second flipping, Vishnu caught hypothermia and had to be taken ashore while the Patrol’s food floated downstream. All that was salvaged was a box of dehydrated peas which a few scouts caught floating down the river later that night. Other memorable trips include the annual skiing trips at Elk Mountain, the caving trip, and the horseback riding trip.
Vishnu is currently a senior at Conestoga High School. He is a member of the National Art Honor Society and Musician’s Guild. Outside of school, Vishnu enjoys drawing, playing the drums, and attending concerts. After high school, he plans to major in architecture. His school of choice is Cornell University.
