Devon 50 Court Of Honor Salutes Eagle #257
The Devon 50 Court of Honor was convened October 30, 2004
Christopher Tor Sauter - #257
Chris Sauter was born in Philadelphia on March 15, 1988, and after four months, his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where they lived for 4 years. In 1992, they returned to Pennsylvania. Later on Chris decided to try scouting and joined Pack 112 as a Webelos. While a Webelos, Chris checked out Devon 50 at the family campout in Assateague in May 1999. After tasting Mr. Cavanaugh’s famous salt and mustard roast beef cooked directly in the fire, he decided that Devon 50 was the place to be. Chris joined Devon 50 on June 12, 1999, and shortly thereafter got into real scouting at Camp Horseshoe.
After joining Devon 50, he was put into the Stag Patrol and later moved to Hawk Patrol where he was Assistant Patrol Leader, Co-Patrol Leader, and then Patrol Leader. Chris was awarded the Thomas Stillwell Jr. award for enthusiasm in scout troop activities, Edmund J. Purdy award for highest proficiency in cooking, and the Edmund H Richardson Award for scout best filling the traditions of Devon 50. In 2003 as Patrol Leader, his patrol was awarded the Crawford Cup for the best patrol in inter-troop competitions and the Ellson Whyte Plaque for the patrol with the best advancement record. In 2004 he joined staff patrol and became a troop adviser. For his Eagle project this summer, Chris led a group of fellow scouts that spent over 200 hours restoring part of a trail in Valley Forge National Park.
Chris’s most memorable scouting trips were the High Adventure Expeditions to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in both 2002 and 2004. One of the highlights of his 2002 trek was being there with his dad who was returning to Philmont after 35 years. Highlights of his 2004 trek were the 11,700 ft. Mt. Phillips summit, hiking over the Tooth of Time, serving as crew chief, and being with fellow members of D-50.
Chris also recalls attending the 2001 National Jamboree as a peak adventure. He truly enjoys the out-of-doors aspects of scouting. Since joining Devon 50, Chris is proud to have attended five years of Camp Horseshoe, hiked almost 300 miles, and camped out 115 nights.
Currently he is a junior at Conestoga High School where he is a member of the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Track Team. In the future Chris would like to attend college and study biology or medicine. Outside of school he enjoys playing music and many outdoor activities.
