Nelson Pennington Scott - #255
Nelson Scott was born November 19, 1986 in Austin, Texas. In 1995 his family moved from Dallas, Texas to Wayne, Pa. Nelson was a Cub and Webelos Scout in Paoli Pack 81 earning the Arrow of Light.
Nelson joined Devon 50 in 1998 after participating in the Lehigh Gorge Bike Trip as a Webelos guest. Nelson was tentative about boy scouting at first but bonded with the Troop at Camp Horseshoe. He quickly got "dust in his moccasins" and has
returned faithfully to camp the last six years, many years staying for two weeks. Winning the Marching Trophy against arch rivals Troops 78 and 1 will be one of his lifelong fond memories along with the Turtle Derby.
Nelson's was Den Chief for Pack 81 and contributed to several of his Webelos joining D-50. In 2001 Nelson became PL of Fox Patrol and later became Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He was SPL from June 2003 to January 2004. He was elected to the Order of the Arrow in 2001, and has served in the ceremonies at Horseshoe for 2 years.
He has exceeded his wreath sale quota each year despite a strong aversion to knocking on doors. To overcome this, Nelson devised a strategy of putting flyers in neighbor's mailboxes and having those interested call in their orders.
Nelson's Eagle Service Project was building a mile long hiking path through a section of the Tredyffrin Open Space Land Conservancy Nature Preserve. The Project involved selecting the paths route, clearing branches and logs, building a small bridge, hauling out a dump trucks worth of trash, and blazing the trail with signs and markers. Nelson gives thanks to Mr. McAloon, all the scouts and other adults that help complete this project.
Nelson attended Valley Forge Elementary and V.F. Middle School and is currently a junior at Conestoga High School. He is a member of the league champion’s Varsity Soccer team, the Lacrosse teams, Co-President of the Ski Club, and was selected by the faculty as a representative to the National Youth Leadership Forum in DC later this month. Nelson thanks his Mom, for her tireless dedication to making this honor possible and his Dad for his active participation in the Troop.
