Devon 50 Court Of Honor Salutes Eagle #250
The Devon 50 Court of Honor was convened June 14, 2003
by J.B. Rettew, Devon 50 Trustee
David William Rubert - #250
Dave grew up in Devon and Berwyn. He began scouting in 1993 at the age of 7. He was a member of Cub Pack #113 led by Cubmaster Nick Vandekar. He was part of Den #7, led by den mother Carolyn O’Keefe. His most memorable moment in Cub Scouts was arriving at a den meeting late in October and realizing he had forgotten to wear a costume. In desperation he re-arranged his Cub Scout uniform and said he had come as a disgruntled Cub Scout. Dave won the Pinewood Derby at the pack level once. He received his Arrow of Light in 1997.
Dave joined Devon 50 in the fall of 1997 and was placed in the Wolf patrol. Dave is a member of the Order of the Arrow, was patrol leader of the Wolf Patrol from 2000-2001, and was Devon 50’s Senior Patrol leader from June of 2002 through February of 2003.
Dave has attended Camp Horseshoe every summer. He went on many of Devon 50’s campouts, including caving, skiing, hiking and canoeing. His favorite was in 1999 when he did the first leg of the Susquehanna West Branch canoe trip. He also enjoyed two High Adventure canoe trips - in Maine and in the Quetico Provincial Park of Ontario, Canada.
Dave received the Thomas C. Stillwell plaque in 2000. In 2001 he received the J. Barton Rettew, Jr. plaque as well as the troop’s Silver Buckle award. And, he was the Devon 50 Scout of the Year for 2002.
Dave’s Eagle project was to excavate and stabilize a Civil War era springhouse at the Berwyn-Paoli Area Little League Field of Dreams ballpark in Berwyn. Two of the walls were in ruins. Dave and a large crew of scouts and parents, working over 5 weekends, cleared the area of brush and trees, excavated several feet of mud, hauled in rock, rebuilt the walls to a height that would prevent further mud and dirt from entering the springhouse, and installed a historical marker.
His parents are Bill and Karen Rubert. He has an older sister, Rebecca. Dave is a junior at Conestoga High School. He is a member of many music groups where he sings and plays his trumpet, and is an officer in the Student Council. He is thought to be one of the more entertaining students at the school. He is also active in drama and music at the Church of the Saviour in Wayne. After school and on weekends you may see Dave cashiering at the Berwyn Acme. He is currently single, but he hopes not for long.
