Devon 50 Court Of Honor Salutes Eagle #249
The Devon 50 Court of Honor was convened February 22, 2002
by Gerry Cavanaugh, Devon 50 Trustee
Alex Morgan
Eagle Scout, Devon # 249
Alex was born in Boston on May 6, 1987. He spent the first 10 years of his life on the Massachusetts coast in the town of Duxbury. He joined Pack 1776 as a Tiger Cub, completing his Arrow of Light Award before moving to Berwyn, PA during the middle of fifth grade. After joining Troop 50 that spring, he returned to Massachusetts for the summer and enjoyed going to Camp Yawgoog in Rockville, RI with Duxbury Troop 82.
Skills acquired selling candy bars for Pack 1776 were most helpful when it came time for Devon 50 wreath sales. With a lot of encouragement from Eagle Patrol parent Jerry Jonak, Alex managed to make his quota and then to keep on selling until he achieved Rookie of the Year status. The customer base he built in 1998 has continued to grow, and he has won the Top Troop Wreath Sales Award for three consecutive years.
Alex's favorite Devon 50 trip was the 2002 High Adventure journey to the Quetico. He also had fun at the 2001 National Scout Jamboree. He received the J. Barton Rettew, Jr. Award for best advancement record for 2000-2001. As a Den Chief for Pack 113 and Assistant Patrol Leader for Eagle Patrol, Alex gained the leadership experience necessary to lead Eagle Patrol to win the 2001-2002 Lenker-Flood Plaque for highest patrol point score as well as the Field Day Plaque for the same year. Alex is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.
As his Eagle Project, Alex created a butterfly study area for the Great Valley Nature Center by researching the plants which support both caterpillars and adult butterflies, and directing 18 volunteers from Devon 50 in clearing a large area of invasive plants and installing plants donated by local nurseries. He joins his brother, father, uncle and great-uncle among the ranks of Eagle Scouts in the family.
A sophomore at Conestoga High School, Alex plans to attend college and subsequently law school after graduation. He is an avid tennis player and a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon-Do.
