Devon 50 Court Of Honor Salutes Eagle #248
The Devon 50 Court of Honor was convened February 22, 2002
by Gerry Cavanaugh, Devon 50 Trustee
Michael Wardell DeMul
Eagle Scout, Devon # 248
Mike DeMul was born
in Philadelphia on December 8, 1984, and was adopted by his Mother, Robbin, in
September 1986. He lived in Ardmore and moved to Berwyn in December 1989.
Mike began his scouting career when he joined Cub Scout Pack 113 in 1992, and
eventually earned the Arrow of Light Award. In June 1996, Mike joined Devon 50
under the leadership of Scoutmaster James Dunn, and became a member of Wolf
Patrol. He served as Den Chief from 1997-1998, and made the Thousand-Dollar Club
for wreath sales. He was Assistant Patrol Leader of Stag Patrol in 1999-2000,
when he also was elected a member of the Order of the Arrow. He became Patrol
Leader in 2000-2001. He ended his scouting serving as Troop Historian.
Mike's history with Devon 50 also includes 25 camping events (79 nights), 9
hiking events (43 miles), and 10 service projects (41.5 hours). He especially
enjoyed the Troop ski trips and has great memories of Camp Horseshoe Summer Camp
for four years. In 2001, he attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort AP
Hill, VA where he enjoyed meeting people from all over the world.
Mike's Eagle Project was completed in November 2002 at the Upper Main Line YMCA
in Berwyn. His project included clearing and landscaping an area by the pond,
and building, staining and installing three garden benches for member use as
part of their Environmental Education Program. Mike is very appreciative to his
fellow scouts, the Adamiaks, the Roxbys, and others who assisted with this
project.
Mike is especially
thankful for the years of help by Ruth Abbott, his mother’s close friend. She
spent a lot of her personal time making sure he could attend meetings, events,
and other the functions necessary to be a scout. Also a special thanks to Gerry
Cavanaugh, who supported him, being his closest mentor.
Mike's
other interests include playing guitar, writing songs, making ceramic work,
tennis and floor hockey. Michael is a senior at Conestoga High School, and plans
to attend college in the fall.
