Devon 50 Court Of Honor Salutes Eagle #244
The Devon 50 Court of Honor was convened
by J.B. Rettew, Devon 50 Trustee
Scott Andrew McLelland
Devon 50 Eagle Scout #244
Scott was born on December 16, 1983 in Downer’s Grove, Illinois. He moved to Paoli, Pennsylvania in 1985. Scott joined Tiger Cubs in first grade and was in Pack 112. When his family moved from Paoli to Berwyn in the fall of 1992, he transferred to Pack 113. Scott remembers most the Pinewood Derby from his Cub Scout days, winning at the pack level twice, coming in second once, and placing second overall at the districts in his final year. After earning the Arrow of Light, he joined Devon 50 in the summer of 1995.
Scott attended summer camp in the summer of 1995 where he earned the Tenderfoot and Second Class ranks. He was placed in the Eagle Patrol and was a member of that patrol until he was named Patrol Leader of the Hawk Patrol in 1999. Scott has served as a Den Chief, Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader for Devon 50. This last job was the most challenging, and perhaps a little disappointing, because his tenure as SPL was cut short by his 18th birthday. He was also the SPL of Jamboree Troop 136 at the National Jamboree in the summer of 2001 for ten days. That was a highly demanding job, but the experience taught Scott a lot about what it takes to be a good leader. As a Devon 50 scout Scott has been awarded the Thomas C. Stillwell Jr. Award for Enthusiasm (1998), The Edward H. Richardson Award for Leadership (1999), The Field Day Plaque (2000), Scout-of-the-Year (2000), and the William W. Sellers Award for assistance to the Scoutmaster Staff (2001), as well as the Silver Buckle at summer camp in 2001. His favorite trips have been the two high adventure trips to Quetico and Maine in the summers of 1999 and 2000 respectively. Scott particularly enjoyed those trips because he got to have a true wilderness experience and he enjoyed sharing that with his father and younger brother Ryan. He also enjoyed the white water rafting, skiing, and weekend canoe trips throughout the year.
Scott lives with his brother and parents, and has an older sister, Laura, who is a junior at Syracuse University. Scott is currently a senior at Conestoga High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, as well as a National Merit Commended Scholar. Scott plays ice hockey for Conestoga and he plans to play for the Conestoga Rugby Club this spring. He is also on the Conestoga Chess Team, plays the saxophone in the Marching Band and Wind Ensemble, and participates in REACH, a school organization to teach younger kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Scott plans to attend either the University of Michigan or Carnegie Mellon University in the fall to study engineering.
