Dan Spangler was born August 10, 1982 in Phoenixville and has lived near there most his life except for two years. From 1983 to 1985 he and his family resided in Rhode Island. He has two sisters, Elizabeth, age 15, and Lauren, age 10. His parents are Mark and Bonnie Spangler.
Dan is a 2000 graduate of Phoenixville Area High School where he participated in Marching and Concert Bands (playing trumpet), Student Government, the National Honor Society, and SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving). He earned National Merit Scholarship Commended status and is in the 1999 edition of Who's Who Among American High School Students. Hobbles include kayaking, biking, fishing and backyard water landscaping. He is employed at Pickering Valley Feed and Farm store in Lionville.
He joined Devon Troop 50 In 1994 in the Hawk Patrol when led by Trevor Maloney. Dan was Patrol Leader in 1998/1999 and received the Edmund J. Purdy, Jr. award and the Field Day Plaque at the 1999 Spring Picnic. He has been a Troop Guide during 1999 and 2000. Most memorable scouting experiences include biking the 184-mile C&O Canal Trail twice, and caving in West Virginia. Dan attended Camp Horseshoe for five consecutive years, was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in 1997, and has sold quota in wreath sales since Joining Devon 50.
Dan's Eagle Project involved the installation of lighting in the Independence Garden at the Valley Forge Freedoms Foundation. Independence Garden contains stones from the houses of each signer of the Declaration of Independence and flags from the original 13 Colonies.
Dan will be attending Lehigh University in the fall of 2000 where he plans to major in business or the sciences.
