Carl D. Maloney

Devon 50 Eagle Scout #236

Carl Daniel (CD) Maloney was born in Phoenixville on February 6, 1983. He has a brother Trevor (Devon Eagle #217) and a sister Laura, and has lived in Phoenixville all his life. C.D. joined Pack 73 in first grade as a Tiger Cub. He transferred to Devon 50 in May, 1994 after receiving his Arrow of Light. C.D. has been active in the Washington Memorial Chapel Choir of Men and Boys and has served as Soloist and Head Chorister. He traveled to England with the choir in 1991 and 1994. He is a junior at Phoenixville Area High School. He is interested in Rock and Roll Music and has an extensive record collection and knowledge of Classic Rock.

For his Eagle Project, C.D. chose the 314th Regiment Museum, which also houses the World of Scouting Museum, at the Washington Memorial Chapel. C.D. and his Scout crew removed 2 old brick paths and built a new, smooth path between the flagpoles to the front door of the cabin. The project involved 396.5 hours, 67 volunteers and 11 workdays! The planning included attending 2 vestry meetings at the Chapel to get permission and input for the project, arranging for a backhoe (donated) to dig the area for the new path and getting a delivery of stone (donated) for the new base. The volunteers had to move all the dirt that the backhoe shoveled to fill in the old paths. It was a huge amount of work in very hot, humid weather.

C.D. has attended many summer camps at Camp Horseshoe or Camp Ware. Last summer he worked on staff in the Crafts Lodge at Camp Ware and earned 4 merit badges in the classes he taught. Some of his favorite Devon 50 trips have been the caving expeditions and the 184-mile bike trip. C.D. will be among those on the Maine High Adventure Canoe Trip in July.

            C. D. won a plaque in 1994-95 for the Best Advancement Record. He has been a member of the $1000 Club for wreath sales every year and has also been Patrol Top Salesman. C.D. served as a Troop Guide, Bugler for Webelos Woods, and Assistant Patrol Leader of the Hawk Patrol and has earned the Den Chief Award. In 1998 C.D. was elected to the Order of the Arrow.

C.D. is active in the high school Phantom Marching Band, playing bari- tone horn. C.D. performed in several shows and theater - this year he played the villain General Bullmoose in "L'il Abner." He is also a member of the concert band and the Phoenixville Area High School Choir.

Upon graduation from high school in June, 2001 C.D. hopes to pursue a career in radio.
