Thomas Gerald Jonak - #234
Tom Jonak was born on July 13, 1982 in Philadelphia. In 1984 his family moved to Devon. He has a sister Elizabeth age 19 and a brother Peter, age 23 who is Devon 50 Eagle Scout # 208. He received all his formal education in the Tredyffrin-Easttown school system, beginning with Devon Elementary School. Presently he is in the middle of his senior year at Conestoga High School.
Before becoming Boy Scout, Tom was in Cub and Webelos Scouts and earned the Arrow of Light Award. He joined Devon 50 in 1994 as a member of the Eagle patrol led by Colin Ferriman. Under the enthusiastic and dedicated leadership of Devon 50 adult and scout staff, Tom enjoyed many scouting programs and advanced through the ranks of scouting. His favorite activities included ski and mystery trips, five summers spent at Camp Horseshoe, white water rafting and Gettysburg trips. He especially remembers the challenging 1999 expedition to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He will not forget the happy moments he experienced with his father and friends Kevin and Trevor after they climbed to the top of 12,500 ft. high Mt. Baldy!
Tom served as the Den Chief for pack 112 between 1994-98, editor of Pelican Feathers in 1996- 97, Assistant and Patrol Leader for the Eagle Patrol in 1998-99 and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader in 1999. In 1998 he was elected to the Order of the Arrow. For 1995 Christmas wreath sales he was Rookie of the Year and made the $1000 Club six years in the row. Since 1994 Tom participated at every work day held at Camp Jarvis and with the Eagle patrol he painted and improved the Camp's totem pole in 1998. For his Eagle project Tom and his friends painted an outside 9 by 10 foot mural at the UMLY depicting four important values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
In addition to scouting, Tom has participated in swimming, soccer, baseball, Conestoga High School marching band and orchestra. He enjoys playing piano, guitar, singing, painting and making movies. In school he is interested in science and computers and wants to pursue his career in these fields.
He was accepted at Perm State and University of Pittsburgh but is still waiting for replies from several other schools before he decides where to go. He looks forward to college this fall, and he expects to enjoy his four years.
