David Christopher Haerland - #227
David Christopher Haerland was born in Hillingdon, England on April 10, 1980 and lived in England for almost 3 years before moving to Wayne, PA with his parents Kay and Bard. Dave joined scouting in 1987 as a Cub Scout with Pack 47 in Wayne, and got his arrow of light with Pack 197 while he lived in Mahwah, NJ for a year in 1992.
In 1992, he joined the Devon 50 Wolf Patrol, and in 1996, with Dave as Patrol Leader, the patrol won the award for best advancement record and for patrol cooking. He has enjoyed summer camp at Camp Horseshoe every year since joining Devon 50, and his highlights so far were the Troop trips to Colorado in 1995 and to the International Jamboree Celebratus in England in 1996.
Dave was the most active hiker in the troop in 1995, and the most active camper in 1995, 1996 and the first half of 1997, as well as taking top patrol salesman and $1000 club honors for wreath sales three years in a row. He joined the Devon 50 Explorer Post in 1995, and enjoys the added challenges, responsibilities and fun this program offers.
This summer, Dave served as Senior Patrol Leader at the Penn State Energy Camp, and then as Senior Patrol Leader for Devon 50 during the second week of summer camp at Camp Horseshoe. He was awarded the Silver Buckle by his fellow scouts, and led the troop to four marching trophies and a second place in the Clean Camp competition. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.
Dave is a junior at Conestoga High School, where he plays saxophone in the Conestoga Marching Band. He enjoys skiing, scuba diving, mountain biking and using his computer for work and play, and is seriously thinking about attending Penn State College and following in his fathers footsteps in the telecommunications field.
