by J. B. Rettew III, President of the Board of Trustees of Devon 50, Inc.,
and Devon 50 Eagle Scout #29.

Sean Alan McConnell was born in Philadelphia on June 29, 1981. At a young age he and his family moved from Ardmore to their current home in Berwyn. It was here that Sean joined the Cub Scout program with Pack 112. After earning the Arrow of Light award he crossed over into Devon 50 in May of 1992.
During the past five years Sean has accumulated many fond memories while participating in the troop's active program. Some of his favorite trips include completing the 184 mile bike~hike along the C & O canal, earning his "50 Miler" badge during the Adirondack trek, climbing San Luis Peak in Colorado, and attending the Essex International Jamboree in England.
Prior to his current position as the Troop Guide, Sean was the proud leader of the Eagle Patrol, whose dedicated scouts helped make the patrol victorious at last year's district Klondike Derby and a leading contender in the council-wide First Aid Meet. Under his leadership. Eagle patrol was also the recipient of the Devon 50 Field Day Plaque for the past two years. Sean was honored last year to receive the J.B. Rettew Ill Trophy for being an outstanding Patrol Leader, and the Daniel T. Kilcullen Award for his services within the troop.
Last summer, Sean spent his fourth year at Camp Horseshoe, this time as a Counselor in Training. and this summer he hopes to return to the camp staff as a Nature Instructor. He is also a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and has participated in numerous Indian pageants at Camp Horseshoe.
For his Eagle Project, Sean and his scout volunteers cleaned and repainted 15 cast-iron ammunition boxes which are mounted onto the cannons in Valley Forge Park. He is a student in 10th grade at Conestoga High School where he is a drummer in the marching band. Upon graduation Sean plans on pursuing a career in medicine.
