The Court of Honor was
convened June 15, 1996 at 6:30 PM by J. B. Rettew III, President of the Board of Trustees
of Devon 50, Inc., and Devon 50 Eagle Scout #29.
Dan was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, on April 1, 1978. He has lived all of his life
in Strafford. He attended St. Monica's School in Berwyn and after 5th grade, transferred
to St. Aloysius Academy in Bryn Mawr. In June 1996 he graduated from Archbishop Carroll
High School where he was on the honor roll.
Dan was a cub scout with Pack 113. In the summer of 1989, Dan joined Devon 50 and has
served under three scoutmasters: Neil Chippendale, Al Nahmias, and presently, Jim Dunn. He
was a member of the Beaver Patrol under Andy Rice, Matt Norton, Matt Lammer, Tom Eybye,
and John Burg. Dan was John Burg's assistant patrol leader and later succeeded John as the
Beaver Patrol Leader. In 1994, Dan joined the staff and was named the Quartermaster. In
1995, Dan was the grounds and facilities liaison under the help of Mr. Jonak.
Dan has attended Camp Horseshoe every summer since 1990. Dan's most memorable trips
with Devon 50 were the 1992 International Jamboree in Essex, England, the 1993 National
Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, and all the mystery trips.
Dan was a member of the $1,000 Club with the wreath sales and top patrol salesman every
year, and also was "Salesman of the Year" in 1991. Dan has been an active member
of the St. Monica's Church, where he served as an altar boy for 5 years and was a member
of the CYO youth group.
Dan played soccer and basketball for St. Monica's. He also played football and baseball for St. Aloysius. At Carroll, he was a 3-year Varsity letterman in Lacrosse as well as football. Dan was a 1995 and 1996 All-Catholic and All-Main Line Pick in Lacrosse.
Dan's Eagle project took place at D'Ambrosia Park in Berwyn. It consisted of the clean
up and maintenance of 2 baseball fields and the beautification of the entrance. Dan now
joins his older brothers, Larry, Martin, and Matt as an Eagle Scout.
Dan will be attending Shippensburg University in the fall and plans to major in
business.
