Josh Leone joined scouting as a member of Devon Troop 50 in the summer of 1988 when he first attended Camp Horseshoe as a member of the Troop. He earned the rank of Scout that summer along with the Swimming, First Aid and Cooking Merit Badges. That Fall Josh transferred his membership to Troop 149 in Flemington, New Jersey, as part of the George Washington Council. As member of that troop, Josh earned the ranks of Tenderfoot and Second and First Class Scout, and served as a Den Chief in Pack 61 in Flemington.

Josh returned to attend two weeks of summer camp with Devon 50 in the summer of 1989. In 1989 Josh also attended the 1989 National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill as a member of Chester County Council Troop 1523 under Devon 50 Scoutmaster, Al Nahmias.

In February, 1990 Josh achieved the rank of Star Scout as a member of Troop 149. In the Spring of 1990 Josh was elected to the Order of the Arrow as a member of Troop 149 and took his Ordeal with Sanhican Lodge #2, George Washington Council. In the Summer of 1990 Josh once again attended summer camp with Devon 50 and, in addition, served as a nature counselor and Den Chief at the Diamond Rock District Cub Day Camp and as a Counselor in Training (CIT) at the Nature Lodge Staff at Camp Horseshoe. In September 1990 Josh earned his Life Scout rank as a member of Devon 50.

In April 1991 Josh joined the 0ctoraro Lodge #22 of the Order of the Arrow, where he earned his Brotherhood. That summer he again served as a member of the Nature Lodge Staff at Camp Horseshoe. In August of 1991 Josh also participated in a high adventure canoe and hiking trek in the Adirondack High Adventure Area under Scoutmaster Neil Chippendale. ln 1991 Josh became a Counselor on the Aquatics Staff at the Camp Horseshoe. That school year Josh served as an Instructor and as Troop Historian for Devon Troop 50 and was elected Recording Secretary of Explorer Post 50.

In the Summer of 1992, Josh again served on the Horseshoe Aquatics Staff as a Life Saving Instructor. That summer he also attended the Essex International Jamboree in Essex, England, during which he served as Troop Scribe. At the Jamboree, Josh served as captain of Devon 50's Jamboree-wide Championship volley ball team. That Fall, Josh served as a Assistant Senior Patrol Leader under SPL Matt Lammer and was elected Vice President of the Explorer Post.

Beginning February 1993 Josh served as Troop Quartermaster under SPL Wayne Riddle. In May 1993 Josh was elected President of the Explorer Post and in June 1993 he assumed responsibility as Senior Patrol Leader of Devon 50. In June 1993, Joshua received the following Devon Troop 50 Awards:

Scout of the Year Award - awarded to the scout who by his actions and service throughout the year best exemplifies the ideals of scouting;

Joseph B. Knipe Jr. Award - awarded to the Explorer of the Year,

William W. Sellers Award - the Scoutmaster’s Leadership Trophy - awarded for outstanding leadership.

Herbert E. Jewson Jr. Award - awarded to the scout who best exemplifies the scout oath and the explorer code; and

The Daniel T. Kilcullen Memorial Award - awarded to the scout who by his activities and service throughout the year has given extraordinary service to Devon Troop 50 and encouragement to younger scouts. This is awarded on the basis of an election by the Troop membership.

In the Summer of 1993 Josh was one of 50 students from across the United States invited by the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge to participate with General H. Norman Schwartzkopf in a program regarding the nature of freedom and its rights and responsibilities.

Josh holds certifications as a Lifeguard, BSA and as a Red Cross Lifeguard. He plans to serve on the Horseshoe Aquatics Staff as a Lifesaving Instructor again this summer. At Conestoga High School Josh achieved High Honors in his Sophomore year and Distinguished Honors in his Junior Year. He continues to excel academically and plans to attend Penn State Uaiversity, College Park Campus, this Fall, where he intends to pursue a bachelor of arts degree. Josh is interested in the field of physical therapy and a career where he can use the aquatics and outdoor skills he developed as a member of Devon Troop 50.
