Matthew P. Norton

Feb. 25, 1995 - The 65th Anniversary Court of Honor was convened by Bill Iorio, Council Commissioner, and attended by a large number of Devon 50 alumni and other honored scouting guests. The Eagle recipients were Morry Jeffords and Matt Norton.


Matthew P. Norton


Matthew P. Norton was born on May 22, 1974, and has resided in Strafford, Pennsylvania for all of his 18 years. Matt started his education at St. Monica School in Berwyn. When he graduated from the 8th grade he received the Good Citizen Award from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He continued his education at Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor. In the fall, Matt will attend Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales, where he will major in business.

Matt first started scouting in 1982 with Cub Pack 113 and earned the Arrow of Light Award. In 1985, he Joined Devon 50 in the Eagle Patrol and has served under Scoutmasters Bill Iorio, Al Nahmias and, of course, Neil Chippendale and Jim Dunn. He was Den Chief for 113. Matt transferred to the Beaver Patrol under Bill Lammer and later served as patrol leader.

Matt has participated in several exciting events with Devon 50 including the National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill in 1989, trips to the U.S. Naval Academry, the Submarine Base in Groton, Conn., various sailing trips and many Summer camps at Horseshoe. He will be attending the International Jamboree in Essex, England this August.

Matt has received several honors in Devon 50. In his first year he was awarded the top Rookie Salesman and top salesman for selling Christmas wreathes. He has been a member of the $1000 club and in his best year his wreath sales exceeded $3,000. Matt received the Silver Buckle Award at Camp Horseshoe for his performance as the troop's best all around camper. Matt is also a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Matt has been an active member of St. Monica's Church, where he served as an altar boy for 5 years, a member of the C.Y.O Youth Group and is presently a member of the Holy Name Society's Men's Club.

During grade school, Matt played basketball and soccer for St. Monica's school. He played.d baseball for Devon-Strafford Little League for 3 years.

Matthew now joins two of his brothers, Larry and Martin, as an Eagle Scout.
