I just spent several days at camp... and it was great! I was at the Horseshoe Scout Reservation Alumni Association (HSRAA) and saw many of the people I was in camp with in the 1940's as well as my later years of the 60's through to the present.
This was a special time for me as my Senior Patrol Leader for 1976 1nd 1977 came up from Virginia with his two Scout sons. He is Lt. Colonel Brett Barraclough and still is in the Army in the Pentagon. He probably was Devon 50's finest Senior Patrol Leader, leading the Troop out West in 1977 and also the key young leader for the Troop's 50th anniversary. I am attaching photo of Brett for the record with his two boys and Ernie Heegard.
Ernie Heegard was there celebrating his 60th year in camp! He had been Camp Director for 29 years before he retired in 1987.
We had the Sump Pumps (a group of staff members of the 1960's who pulled together their members from that era) to provide great entertainment - singing, playing guitar, saw, wash tub, ukuleles, and wash board. Also, attaching some of the Reunion Pictures.
By the way, anyone who has camped at the Horseshoe Scout Reservation is qualified to join the HSRAA for a nominal fee. Check the Council Website.
Best to all my 50 friends, JB Rettew |
