Character Counts!

Boy Scouting develops moral strength and character, which are reflected in a boy's personal qualities, his values, his outlook.

These form the foundation for participating citizenship,
where he learns to extend his relationship with others into recognition of his obligation to other people, the society he
lives in and the government
that serves it

But our process of learning is not a chore, it is a natural outcome of having fun,
- the right kind of fun!

"Scouting is a game for boys".... (Robert Baden-Powell).

74 years of Service
Boy Scouting offers a unique combination of personal growth and healthy, safe fun. For almost 75 years, Troop Devon 50 has served the future leaders of our nation with an active and challenging program. In our troop, the boys of Tredyffrin Township and the surrounding communities learn and grow physically, mentally, emotionally and socially, as they enjoy and master new skills, and experience teamwork and leadership opportunities.

We have a proud record of adventure and achievement, as a Troop and as individual scouts. Over 250 of our scouts have reached the rank of Eagle Scout, a distinction which colleges and employers recognize and value.

Camp Jarvis - home of Devon 50:
Devon 50 has one of the finest scouting facilities in the area with our own Scout cabin on 10 acres of woodland where our boys have fun, meetings, indoor and outdoor training activities, competitions and formal ceremonies.

 Our program:
Boy Scouting is designed to take place outdoors, and most of our activities do. Our scouting year runs from early September to the following summer, with an average of one troop activity every two weeks. We have camped and hiked in Pennsylvania and the North-Eastern states, and attended jamborees in England, Australia, Norway and Korea in the past.

Experienced scouts backpack at the Philmont Scout reservation in New Mexico and canoe in the wilderness of Maine or Canada .

Other favorite activities include caving trips, river canoeing and rafting, skiing weekends, winter camping and a memorable 184 mile bike trip along the canals to Washington DC
The Devon 50 program also includes visits to nature study sites, government and historical sites and museums, and frequent participation in community service projects, such as restoration of portions of Valley Forge Park and Chester County environmental projects.

Devon 50 boys have attended Summer Camp at Camp Horseshoe every year since its opening in 1928, and most scouts think those two weeks are the highlight of the year. In a setting of fun and friendly competition, they have the opportunity to learn important scouting skills and earn Merit Badges in over 30 subjects.

 Adult Leadership.
Our adult leaders do not run the troop, the boys do. The adults are there to help, and do so with enthusiasm and dedication. Each has more than 5 years of scouting service, and a combined total of over 1200 hours of training
