Oct 20, 1995 - The Diamond Rock District Camporee was held in Phoenixville at Reservoir Park. We arrived Fri. night and set up camp on the highest ground we could find in anticipation of forecast rains. We woke Saturday morning to find that it was raining VERY HARD. In fact, the camp site was under an inch of water!
We prepared breakfast, cleaned up as best we could, and set off to learn about the canal, the railroad, general scouting skills, and the Jamboree Of The Air. The presentations were well done, even in the rain. At 10:00 AM it was still raining...so hard that many troops began packing. Since the rain was forecast to continue, and there were no other troops left to share a camporee with, Mr. Dunn gave the order to strike camp. Mr. Haerland rented a truck so we could get our gear back to the cabin and several parents packed our wet scouts into their cars and we all headed home.
This was a great weekend for finding out what it means to "Be Prepared". Scouts that were well prepared had no trouble even in the face of all the rain. Other scouts had difficulty and were very uncomfortable. It was a great chance to learn.
